The election is only one week away. While Biden looks likely to take home a victory on election night, Republican voter suppression and intimidation could create election turmoil. Trump is desperately trying to undermine ballot counting and to mobilize his supporters to engage in racist voter intimidation. Meanwhile the Democrats have not committed to anything beyond legal challenges, a strategy that failed in 2000, that failed in Georgia and Florida in 2018, and that we can not depend on in 2020.
That’s why Seattle DSA, along with 350 Seattle and others, are bringing the left together this weekend to prepare the fight back. You don’t want to miss it. Join us:
Action Assembly to Stop Trump from Stealing the Election
Sunday, November 1st at 3PM
Cal Anderson Park
RSVP / more info here!
We’ll discuss the strategies we need to defend the right to vote and prepare for massive peaceful protests if Trump attempts to steal the election. We will be at the forefront of defending these basic democratic rights, but we offer absolutely no political support for Biden. We’ll also prepare to fight a Biden presidency from day one, building movements for a Green New Deal, Medicare for All, defunding the police, and reproductive justice. Join us to defend your community, your comrades, and yourselves.
CHOP CHOPP, SUPPORT SHERAE FOR STATE!
We have one week to Get Out the Vote for Sherae Lascelles! We’re going all out to elect People’s Party candidate Sherae Lascelles to represent the 43rd Legislative District in the State House. Sherae’s campaign offers a chance to not just vote against the status quo of corporate politics, but to vote for an anti-establishment, anti-racist agenda that favors workers, BIPOC, LGBTQ, and other marginalized communities.
Sherae is running a people-powered campaign that refuses corporate donations and champions important working-class demands such as taxing the rich, publicly-owned social housing, and free public transit. Sherae has a fighting chance of defeating Frank Chopp, a 25-year incumbent and top power player in Washington state’s corrupt cesspool of corporate politics. Check out the full statement by Seattle DSA on why we are supporting Sherae. Share it widely!
And come out to our last Get Out the Vote canvass before the election!

TOWN HALL WITH COUNCILMEMBER TAMMY MORALES: DEFUND SPD AND REINVEST IN COMMUNITY!
7 out of 9 city council members pledged this summer to defund the SPD by 50% and reinvest those funds in BIPOC communities. In their negotiations over the remaining 2020 budget, the City Council cut the Seattle Police Department by only 3%. As they begin to discuss the 2021 budget, now is their chance to follow through on their pledge. We must demand that the Council fulfills its promise to defund SPD by 50%!
District 2 Defund SPD! Town Hall with Tammy Morales
Thursday, October 29th at 6PM
RSVP here!
Join us for the first in a series of town halls with council members, hosted by Seattle DSA and our Afrosocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus. We will discuss the 2021 budget, how to fight against Mayor Durkan’s austerity budget, and demand that the council stands firmly on the side of the working class.
DSA100K: JOIN DSA TODAY!
Not a member of DSA? Join today! Together, we are working to build a mass movement that can stop evictions, defund the police, and win Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and so much more. We seek to organize the working class into fights against bosses, landlords, corporations, and corrupt politicians and take back power from them. Our power comes from our strength in numbers, and when we stand together we can win our transformative demands.
DSA 100K Recruitment Party
Thursday, October 29th at 6:30PM
RSVP here!
Join Seattle DSA for a recruitment party! We’ll discuss this current political moment, the elections, the pandemic, and how we can learn from these to engage in mutual aid and build power for a socialist future in which people come before profits. You’ll also get a chance to hear from some of our caucuses and working groups to find out about the work that DSA is doing right now and how you can contribute!
Are you a current DSA member? Bring your friends to help get them involved too! Remember to take the DSA 100K pledge to recruit three people you know to DSA.
KSHAMA SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGN
Seattle DSA’s Local Council (our elected leadership) has recently endorsed the Kshama Solidarity Campaign. Kshama Sawant, Seattle’s only elected socialist, is under attack by a right-wing recall attempt. This is an attack on all working people and on all socialists. Find out more and support the campaign here.
In solidarity,
Seattle DSA
