Hi,

This Saturday was National Vote Early Day- but here at Student PIRGs, we know that every day between now and November 3rd is “Election Day.”

Right now record numbers of young people are voting early, which means making a plan to vote and making sure you get your voice heard is more important than ever.

Make your plan to vote here.

To celebrate Vote Early Day  we launched  our Get Out the Vote campaign and joined PIRG chapters across the country to organize our  biggest Phone-a-Thon of the election so far..

What we accomplished:
  • Hundreds of students volunteered over 1,200 hours at 7 regional and statewide phonebanks spanning 17 states.
  • More than 4,000 conversations with student voters on the phone on the national day of action. In the week leading up to Saturday, our team talked to an additional 7,000 students helping 3,000 of them make plans, register, or sign up to vote by mail.
  • More than 2,500 voters to take action including: making a plan to vote, texting their friends to make a plan themselves, and registering to vote

Here are some Highlights from our day of action:

Our Florida team “banded” together on Vote Early Day with their Boy Band Phone-a-Thon. They did over 400 hours of volunteering, where they helped over 1,000 Florida voters make a plan to vote and text their friends to be vote ready as well.

Our Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas teams celebrated with a “Don’t Sleep on Voting” themed phonebank because even though it was the weekend, our team is not going to rest until we have helped all of our friends make a plan to vote.

Ready with their cell phones and festive Halloween costumes, the Massachusetts chapters made their final push to help students register before the voter registration deadline. On the final day, they reached more than 800 students on the phone and sent 11,000 text messages.

All week we joined the All In Challenge to host #VotingPowerHours to texting our friends and family to make sure they have a plan to vote. We were joined by celebrities Emma Stone, Dave Matthews Band and Selena Gomez. On Vote Early Day, two of our Massachusetts leaders pictured below were in the top 10 texters and helped text over 11,000 voters!
