OSCE to launch thematic report on violence against women and girls from disadvantaged groups in Warsaw on 16 September

VIENNA, 13 September 2019 – The OSCE Gender Section will present the thematic report Well-being and Safety of Women: Experiences of Disadvantaged Women at the Human Dimension Implementation Meeting in Warsaw.

The OSCE-led Survey on the Well-being and Safety of Women concluded that all women can experience violence. However, some groups of women are at a higher risk. This includes women from disadvantaged groups. The thematic report focuses on groups that are disadvantaged in terms of education level, income status, employment status, residential area, disability, age, choice in marriage, age at the time of marriage, ethnic or religious minority status, being a refugee or displaced person and returnees or former displaced person. The report complements the main report of the survey.

The survey covers seven OSCE participating States: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, Moldova and Ukraine.  The research was also conducted in Kosovo.

The Permanent Representative of the European Union to the OSCE, Ambassador Ioannis Vrailas, will open the event. Panellists Cristina Marie Finch, Head of the Tolerance and Non-discrimination Department at ODIHR, Serani Siegel, Project Manager, and Senada Sali, lawyer with the European Roma Rights Centre, will then discuss the findings. The closing remarks will be delivered by Amarsanaa Darisuren, the OSCE Senior Adviser on Gender Issues.

This project is supported by the European Union, the United Nations Population Fund, UN Women and UNICEF, as well as by the governments of Germany, Norway, Sweden, the United States of America, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria and Finland.

Media representatives are invited to cover the event from 13.30 to 14.30 on 16 September in the Plenary Hall, Warsaw National Stadium (PGE Narodowy), Aleja Poniatowskiego 1, GATE 1, 2nd floor.
