Friend,

Hurricane Dorian ripped through the Bahamas last week, destroying homes, tearing apart communities, and causing at least 50 deaths. More than 70,000 people are still without power. The number of people missing remains unknown.

My heart breaks just thinking about it, friend.

It can take months, if not years, for communities to rebuild after destruction like that. And still, there will always be the lingering memories of fear, mourning, and pain.

All the while, survivors of Hurricane Dorian have been barred from entering the United States because Trump blatantly lied and said those fleeing the Bahamas could be "some very bad people and some very bad gang members and some very very bad drug dealers."

It's racist dog whistle politics at its worse.

But Trump doesn't represent the majority of American people. The American people I know step up to help out others in times of tragedy. And right now, the Bahamian people need our help, friend.

If you can, please consider donating to one or both of the following organizations dedicated to helping the Bahamas recover during this difficult time:

The Grand Bahama Disaster Relief Foundation: [link removed]

HeadKnowles, the Bahamas' leading hurricane relief organization since 2015: [link removed]

Thank you for doing your part.

In solidarity,

Barbara Lee
