Next Friday people are taking to the streets across the UK to demand climate action at the Global Climate Strike. And whether you're able to go or not – there's so much you can do to make sure we make this the biggest climate mobilisation in history.
The challenge that lies ahead is going to take all of us and that means feet on the ground and making as much noise online about the climate crisis as we can – and one more thing – we're going to need to get creative.
That's why we've come up with an amazing way for you to let your friends and colleagues know about the Global Climate Strike and see if they can come. It's pretty fun to use too, will you give it a go?
We need this government to act like we are in a climate emergency – and whether it's Brexit or party infighting that's keeping them busy we need to make sure stopping climate change doesn't tumble down their to-do list – the world depends on it.
But we know it's not easy to get away from university, work or other commitments, and for some it won't be possible.
If you do need some help getting away from work, here are a few ideas:
- talk to your workmates or fellow students to build support – you might be surprised how many people are keen to help
- put a proposal to your employer or university, outlining why they should support the climate strikes
- publicise your employer or university's support to let everyone internally know what's happening and how they can participate
- book some time off, if you can spare the leave, even if it's just a few hours
- or even join a strike during your lunch or study break – if you can only stay for half an hour, that's still brilliant!
If this isn't possible for whatever reason then why not become a pro at getting people in your network to come down if they can? The more people you get to come, the more likely Boris and his government will listen.
Young people have been striking from school and now they are calling on everyone to join them to deliver a clear message of the urgent need for bold and ambitious climate action. It is evidently clear, there is no longer time to wait, the moment for action is now.
