John,

My friend Senator Durbin said I could reach out to you today because we're in the fight of our lives to take back the Senate -- we only have 9 days left and the stakes could not be higher.

Before I ask if you can chip in to help flip the Senate, I hope you'll hear me out.

We as a country find ourselves in a moral moment. President Trump and Vice President Pence have spread chaos, hatred, and division across our country, all while failing to properly address the COVID-19 pandemic. Everything from health care coverage for millions of people, to reproductive freedom guaranteed by Roe v. Wade, to our bedrock environmental protections, to our most basic right to vote, and so much more are on the line.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been saying, "This is a battle for the soul of our nation." And they're right. But defeating President Trump is not enough -- we need to flip the Senate, too.

Will you split a $5 contribution between my campaign and Dick Durbin right now?

In the Senate, Senator Durbin and I passed the First Step Act, a criminal justice bill that substantially reforms sentencing guidelines, prison conditions, law enforcement training, and re-entry efforts. We should be building on this progress -- but Mitch McConnell and the Senate GOP are more concerned with rushing President Trump's nominee onto the Supreme Court.

It's clear that if we want to move this country forward, we need to take back the Senate.

With so much on the line and only 9 days left to go, will you split a contribution between my campaign and my good friend Dick Durbin's work to flip the Senate in November?
