Lizzie Pannill Fletcher for CongressFriend,

Two years ago today -- the Sunday during early voting -- was one of the most memorable days of my life. Congressman John Lewis came to Houston to campaign for me. We spent the day together, visiting people all across our community -- in churches, in restaurants, and in our campaign office.

Congressman Lewis addressed the huge crowd that had gathered in our office on Clay Road with words I still hear to this day:

We must be hopeful.
We cannot give up.
We cannot get lost in a sea of despair.
We must keep the faith.
We must be brave. And bold.
And get out there.
And get people to vote.
Like they've never voted before.
We must do what we can to save our democracy.
To save our country...
We can do it.

This year, we have mourned his loss and celebrated his life. He was, quite simply, one of the most courageous and committed citizens in our country's history. He believed in our country. He believed in our democracy. He believed in us.

And even on the day of his funeral, he shared with us his hope, his faith, and his belief in us, with words that filled our broken hearts with love as we laid him to rest.

Now, it is up to us to carry on his work -- with hope, with faith, and with determination. And one way we can do that is by voting and getting others to vote.

I don't have to tell you how much is at stake in this election. And as I think of him today, of what it meant to me, to the whole team, to our whole community, to have him come here to remind us what we could do.

In 2018, we did it. And in 2020, we can do it again. Thank you for doing what you can to make it happen.

You can still contribute and you can still volunteer. And our whole #TeamLizzie will be so grateful for your support.

Together, we can do anything,
