As you probably know, the Senate is on the verge of confirming President Trump’s pick to replace the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. This moment is especially frightening for many in our country who have watched the conservative movement attempt to systematically dismantle their rights and rollback progress.
From reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ protections to guaranteeing health care coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, her nomination represents the most significant threat to our progressive agenda in decades.
Republicans know this, and they don’t care. In fact, they welcome it. They know, for example, that she sits on the board of a private school that denies admission to children of LGBTQ+ parents and refuses to hire teachers that identify as gay or lesbian. That's the kind of person Republicans are rushing to install on the Supreme Court.
This is a reminder that representation matters. At a time when the rights and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as other marginalized groups, are under attack, we need voices in the corridors of power to fight against intolerance and bigotry, and to stand up for our basic humanity.
Our communities are under attack, and we need voices like Ritchie fighting to ensure that Republicans don’t shred everything we’ve worked hard to achieve — not when we still have so far to go.
We can’t do this without you, John. Can we count on you to chip in to ensure that Democrats have the numbers needed to protect progress and fight against bigotry and intolerance?
Let’s work towards a more equitable future together. Thanks so much.
