Mike Espy was inspired to public service by his grandfather, who was the son of slaves in Mississippi. It was his grandfather's story that motivated Mike to practice law in the Mississippi Delta, to become Assistant Secretary of State, and to succeed in securing increased resources for Mississippi's rural public schools.

Later, Mike became the first Black congressman elected from Mississippi since Reconstruction — and then he became the first Black Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture.

Since then, he's been home in Mississippi working to improve the lives of folks in the South by providing loans and helping entrepreneurs start new small businesses.

Now, Mike Espy is running for U.S. Senate — where he'll represent the people and fight to provide economic relief to our communities. Mike represents the best of us, and he has already succeeded in getting within single digits of winning this seat.
