Throughout my life, I have had the great pleasure of working alongside some pretty incredible women — women who have been on the frontlines, leading the movements that have moved our country forward.

One of these trailblazing women is my friend, Senator Tina Smith. When Tina worked at Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota, we partnered and advocated side-by-side to make sure families had access to high-quality health care in their communities. And now, Tina has taken that fight to the United States Senate as the only Senator to have worked at Planned Parenthood.

As we watch Mitch McConnell rush a Supreme Court nomination process in order to overturn the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade, it’s never been more clear what’s at stake. Some days I am overwhelmed that my worst nightmares might become reality under this Administration and with this Republican Senate majority.

But, honestly, I am more hopeful and optimistic than ever because women like Senator Tina Smith are fighting for health care, are fighting for reproductive freedom, are fighting for women and families in the United States Senate.
