John,

Last week I reached out about two important House races that could potentially help determine the next U.S. President of the United States should the Electoral College end in a tie — and you came through, raising $15,000 each for two great candidates.

Now, I want to tell you about two more Democrats running in similar red-to-blue races that could also potentially help determine the outcome of this election: Eugene DePasquale in Pennsylvania and Hillary Scholten in Michigan.

Eugene DePasquale has dedicated his career to public service as a Pennsylvania state legislator and currently as the state’s Auditor General, fighting for working people, senior citizens, and the most vulnerable. He wants to take his fight for the people to Congress, but he’s facing an onslaught of attacks from the GOP in this ultra-competitive race that’s been labeled a toss-up.

Hillary Scholten was born and raised in West Michigan, and is a mom who’s spent her career working with families at a local homeless shelter, advocating for the rights of working families in Grand Rapids, and advising the Department of Justice on immigration policy during the Obama Administration. She’s built some amazing momentum to the point that her race was also just named a toss-up.

Let me explain more about the implications these races may have in determining the next president, and I hope you will split a donation to Eugene, Hillary, and me right now to help us flip these seats from red-to-blue and expand our House majority.

Now, here’s the potential scenario. If there is a dispute about which electors to seat, that will be decided by the full Congress. But if the electoral college ends in a tie, it’s possible that the House could break that tie. Under the 12th Amendment, if no presidential candidate gets a majority of the Electoral College votes, the election is decided by the House alone. And that vote would be conducted in a very unusual way — with each state delegation getting a single vote. That means California, with fifty-three members, gets the same number of votes as Pennsylvania or Michigan.

These two seats are key because they could flip their state delegations to majority Democratic. That would put Democrats in a much stronger position in the event the Electoral College ends in a tie or without a majority for Joe Biden. And in a year that has been unusual in every way, we have to be prepared for everything

Trust me, none of us want it to come to that, and that’s why we have to work as hard as we can for these next 9 days to run through the tape and win a landslide in the House, the Senate, and finally kick Donald Trump out of office. But we need to prepare for every eventuality.

That’s why I’m asking: Will you split a donation to Eugene DePasquale, Hillary Scholten, and our campaign today? Doing so will not only help send two amazing new members to Congress, it could even help make Joe Biden the next president.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation to Eugene DePasquale, Hillary Scholten, and Adam Schiff will go through immediately:

Thanks for helping us expand our House majority and remove Donald Trump from office.
