Here's what HuffPost said:

“The most comprehensive climate proposal so far is from Brad Lander.” (10/22/20)

Dear John:

This week the HuffPost did a deep-dive into what NYC candidates are saying about climate change eight years after the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, and this line says it all: “The most comprehensive climate proposal so far is from Brad Lander.”

Brad understands that to bring our city back from the COVID crisis, we need a recovery that invests in long-term resiliency, accelerates the transition to a sustainable economy, and creates new, green jobs, especially for frontline communities of color.

With smart policy and strong leadership, we can prepare for climate disaster, make our air cleaner, put folks to work in new industries, and become a leader for the nation to follow.

We’re aiming for 1,000 New Yorkers to co-sign Brad’s climate plan by tomorrow night. Read the plan, then add your name to support a bold, progressive climate plan for NYC →

To say that the conversation around climate change in the 2020 presidential campaign has been disappointing would be an understatement.

But here in NYC, we have an enormous opportunity in 2021: 60 percent of the City Council is term-limited (including Brad), and we will elect a new mayor and comptroller.

As HuffPost reports, Brad isn’t wasting any time putting innovative climate solutions at the top of his agenda for the future of our city:

In a detailed plan shared with HuffPost, the candidate for New York City’s chief financial post laid out steps to divest the city’s pension funds of fossil fuels, expand public financing for clean infrastructure and create a new auditing department to hold city agencies and companies accountable to climate goals…

Lander has proposed creating new “climate loans” to help fund solar panels and wind turbines on private property. Drawing on researcher Saul Griffith’s work on financing the transition to clean energy, Lander said the city could, in theory, invest in a vast network of rooftop renewables and batteries that would ultimately amount to a municipal electric utility, drawing in additional revenue for the city...

Lander said he wants to use the comptroller’s office to press New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) for more leeway to make sustainable investments and direct more financing back to New Yorkers as the pandemic-induced recession worsens, pushing back against Albany’s belt-tightening instincts.

“We’re drawn to the idea that austerity thinking is smart thinking, and that’s just not the case,” Lander said. “You’ve got to look at the whole picture.”

Together we are working hard to win big in 2020 from the White House all the way down the ballot -- but we can’t lose sight of the historic chance we have in 2021 to truly lead NYC into the future and show the nation what an ambitious  climate agenda looks like.

John, will you co-sign Brad’s bold climate plan so we can be ready for climate disasters, grow new industries, and have a green recovery here in NYC?
