There are two weekends left before Americans will have the final word in this election. The stakes are clear: Donald Trump will defund and destroy Social Security, while Joe Biden will expand it.

In the first year of Trump’s first term, we said he had declared a “war on seniors” by trying to destroy Medicare and Medicaid through Trumpcare, then blow up the deficit with his tax giveaway. But that war on seniors got literal, as he bungled the response to a pandemic that has killed more than 160,000 seniors.¹

To make matters worse, Trump has taken action to unilaterally eliminate Social Security’s dedicated funding, and has promised that if re-elected, he will “terminate” it. Social Security’s Chief Actuary has said that ending Social Security’s funding would leave it unable to pay any benefits at all by 2023.²

Joe Biden is running on a clear platform of protecting and expanding our Social Security system, and making the wealthy pay their fair share. Seniors are noticing.³ Now we have 10 days to close the deal.

Throughout the pandemic, Trump has treated seniors as expendable. Even in this week’s debate, as he struggled to make up ground, Trump minimized the deaths of older Americans.
