We wanted to be sure you had a chance to read Ayanna’s email from last
night discussing the occupant’s disrespect during the presidential debate
and the GOP’s constant erasure of Black and Brown women.
Ayanna’s message is below:

Email from Ayanna, Friday October 23rd
Last night, during the last few moments of the presidential debate, the
current occupant of the White House referred to me and my fellow
Congresswomen as “AOC + 3.”
His language was yet another example of the GOP belittling and erasing
Black and Brown women. Erasing our work, leadership, and very existence.
This comes on the heels of Republican Senator David Perdue intentionally
mispronouncing Senator Kamala Harris’ name at a MAGA rally in Georgia.
Mispronouncing Kamala’s first name was meant to be the punchline of a
racist joke, a manifestation of xenophobia and white supremacy.
In response, folx from across the country shared the origins and meanings
of their beautiful names and what they mean on social media, with the
hashtag #MyNameIs.
My name is Ayanna Soyini Pressley. My mother, may she rest in power, gave
me this name, which means beautiful flower in Swahili. She told me I’d
make history and the world would learn how to say it right.
My sisters-in-service and I live rent-free in the minds of Donald Trump
and Republicans because they can’t stand to see powerful women of color
transforming the political system and leading a movement for the people.
Republicans will fight to hold onto the status quo because they derive
power from oppressing marginalized people. But, with your support, we are
building a diverse, intergenerational, multicultural movement for progress
in our country. We’ll continue to celebrate our diversity, and we’ll make
sure they know our names.
