As Election day gets closer, I’ve been thinking more and more about Election Day in 2016. I woke up that morning feeling excited and light—I really thought Donald Trump didn’t have a shot and, even though Hillary Clinton was far from my favorite candidate, I knew there was a lot that youth movements could win with her in the White House.

I voted in the morning, went to work, then sat down in front of CNN with my roommates to watch the results come in. I wasn’t worried at all. Tens of thousands of other people like you and me did the same thing, and we lost by just 80,000 votes in three states.

This year, we’ve got to do Election Day differently to defeat Trump. That’s why I’ll be at the polls on November 3rd to “vote triple.” Vote tripling is when we ask people leaving the polls to text three people they know and remind them to vote. It’s a proven way to encourage more people to vote and, with this tactic, we can soar past that small margin that lost us the 2016 election. We’ve got to do everything in our power to get every voter we know and thousands of voters we don’t know to turn out to the polls. Research shows that this direct, person to person recruitment is the most effective way to boost turnout on Election Day . It’s really easy, you can do it while following COVID-19 safety guidelines, and it works.

In 2016, Donald Trump won some key states by unbelievably small margins. On average, a team of three people who vote triple at a polling place can contact nearly fifty people in just one hour. The more volunteers we have for Election Day, the more voters our movement can reach. In just a few hours, you and a couple friends can encourage hundreds of voters to show up and kick Trump out of the White House forever.
