Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

Good morning,

This week, I was in Arizona, where I attended a virtual event for the Sun City Grand HAMs and amateur radio operators from across the West Valley where I spoke about the resolution I am introducing to honor amateur radio and the contributions operators have made.

Legislative Update

I am sponsoring a resolution to designate April 18, 2021, as National Amateur Radio Operators Day. This is an important resolution that recognizes the impact amateur radio has had both in developing new forms of electronic communications, teaching new skills, and most importantly, how amateur radio brings people together, regardless of their background. I am proud to introduce this resolution to honor amateur radio operators and the many contributions they have made to our great nation!

Encouraging Stories

I want to share this story about two brothers, Hurshneet and Pravneet Chadha, who have started a mission known as Project Smile Arizona to send cards with words of encouragement to people going through hard times, especially people in hospitals. The brothers have sent 2,000 cards to people who need cheering up! I love seeing how people are finding ways to spread positivity as we continue to fight the Coronavirus pandemic.

Union Park School Ribbon Cutting

A member of my staff attended a ribbon-cutting for Union Park School in Phoenix! Union Park is an elementary school in the Deer Valley Unified School district that has a Spanish Immersion curriculum for its students. My staff attended the ribbon cutting with Union Park’s Principal Tricia Graham and Assistant Principal Bobbi Cerro, as well as the Maricopa County School Superintendent Steve Watson.

Casework Highlight

A constituent reached out to our office because he had received a favorable decision in his disability case in 2018, but he never received his back payment of benefits or his regular monthly benefits. Our office reached out to the Social Security Administration’s payment center and requested that payment of benefits be expedited. Shortly after our inquiry, the payment center released those funds to the constituent.

Coronavirus Casework Highlight

A constituent was concerned because she was served with an eviction notice by her landlord. Our office reached out and provided information on protections contained within the CARES Act and information from Governor Ducey’s Executive Order. We walked the constituent through her options along with the documentation the constituent would need to provide to her landlord to stop the eviction process.

We are Here to Help
