Meeting with Northshore Community Leaders
This week, I joined several Northshore business and community leaders for a discussion on Coronavirus relief and how we can address the challenges facing our local families and economies.
I’m continuing to advocate for legislation that will extend unused funds in the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) to provide targeted relief to our struggling workers and small businesses.
I also had the opportunity to meet with the newly elected Mayor of Mandeville, Clay Madden. It was great to hear about his priorities for Mandeville and discuss how we can work together to achieve our shared goals for the community.
This week, the official Louisiana State Seal was installed in my office inside the U.S. Capitol.
Preparing for the COVID-19 Vaccine
Operation Warp Speed continues to make progress towards a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine that can be distributed as soon as it’s approved by the FDA. Operation Warp Speed is as equally focused on ensuring the availability of the vaccine as the development of a vaccine.
States across the country, including Louisiana, are preparing their vaccine distribution strategies and have submitted their distribution plans to the CDC for review. These plans are based on the guidance in the CDC interim playbook for jurisdiction operations. Later this month, the CDC plans to post summaries of each jurisdiction’s interim plan online, allowing for transparency and a general understanding of each strategy.
Additionally, the Trump Administration announced agreements with CVS and Walgreens to provide and administer COVID-19 vaccines to residents of long-term care facilities with no out-of-pocket costs. This agreement will help ensure that our nation’s most vulnerable citizens, America’s seniors, are protected against COVID-19.
As Operation Warp Speed proceeds, please review the CDC’s “8 Things to Know About Vaccine Planning.”
Fighting Against Big Tech’s Censorship
Last week, I sent a letter to Twitter’s CEO outlining my concerns regarding their actions which have shown a clear disregard for the spirit of the First Amendment and our country’s long history of open dialogue among citizens. Click here to read the questions I’m asking Twitter.
Also, my colleagues on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and I are demanding a hearing on social media censorship with the CEO’s of Twitter, Facebook, and Google as these companies continue to disregard democratic public squares and suppress speech that does not advance their particular agenda.
