OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL DELAWARE CHILDREN
COVID-19 has made school look different this year, but we will get through this challenging time and our kids will get back in classrooms if we continue to follow the science, wear masks, and social distance.
Governor Carney's top priority from Day 1 has been to ensure all Delaware children have a chance to succeed inside and outside the classroom. He believes the only way to move our state forward is to invest in our students and teachers.
“Delaware will only be successful if all children in our state have the opportunity to advance -- getting a strong early start, and reading by grade three. Over the next four years, we’ll continue the hard work of strengthening our public schools for all Delaware children and navigating this COVID-19 crisis to ensure the safety of our community. There are no greater priorities.”
— Governor John Carney
That’s why Governor Carney will remain focused on Opportunity Funding - an initiative that provides additional resources for English-learners and low-income students. In his first term, Governor Carney successfully launched the $75 million program, and with its initial success, has committed to continue growing it.
Governor Carney also knows how important our educators are to the success of their students. That's why he launched a student loan relief program for educators in high-needs schools and hard to staff subject areas, and gave teachers much deserved raises.
