The true cost of eating animals has never been more stark.

Our modern food system doesn't just hurt the animals. It hurts workers, our communities, and the environment, too.

This Thanksgiving, you have a choice.

Sign our turkey-free pledge for a compassionate Thanksgiving today.

This is a small but powerful act of protest.

Industrial slaughterhouses continue to rely on low-income and immigrant workers. Bottomless wages, exploitative work conditions, and lack of healthcare are the norm-even in one of the country's most dangerous jobs.1

The impact on the environment is just as stark. Polluted air and bodies of water disproportionately target the low-income communities who live and work in these areas.

According to a 2013 United Nations report, animal agriculture is responsible for nearly 15% of greenhouse gases.2 That's about the same as all the earth's planes, cars, and trains combined, Climate Nexus has pointed out.3

And of course, the impact on animals is self-evident. According to a study by the Sentience InstituteĀ 4, which uses USDA data, 99.8% of all turkeys consumed in the United States are reared on factory farms. More than 25 million animals are killed each day in this country alone.5

And if it was bad before, it's worse now.

COVID-19 has thrown the meatpacking industry into sharp relief, exposing a pandemic run rampant.

In the past few months, millions of animals have had to be slaughtered-disposed of, not for human consumption-due to pandemic supply chain disruption.

Poultry plants have been federally mandated to stay open despite rising deaths-over 200 since March, according to the Food and Environment Reporting Network.

American meatpackers have nearly 45,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19.6 Still, the government is pushing for faster line speeds, and overcrowded workers are being denied time off.7, 8, 9

Luckily, more and more Americans are waking up to the inequities of factory farming.

This year, let's sign a pledge to not eat turkey. For the animals, for workers and communities, for the environment.

Sign our pledge to skip turkey this Thanksgiving.
