There's No Such Thing as a "Pro-Life" Vote for Biden
Screenshot_2020-10-22+Joe+Biden.png
Earlier this month, a group of Evangelicals took to the internet with
the statement that they were "pro-life Evangelicals for
Biden." Their website states,
[link removed]
As pro-life Evangelicals, we disagree with Vice President Biden and
the Democratic platform on the issue of abortion. But we believe a
biblically shaped commitment to the sanctity of life compels us to a
consistent ethic of life that affirms the sanctity of human life from
beginning to end... Even as we continue to urge different
policies on abortion, we urge evangelicals to elect Joe Biden as
president.
In other words, this group argues that because they are pro-life, they
will be voting for a candidate who is pro-abortion. This idea is
woefully misguided. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are not simply not
pro-life, they are both radically pro-abortion and committed to
reversing the progress made by the pro-life movement in recent
decades.
This group, and others who have made similar appeals heavily rely on
the argument

that state and local policies have a more of an effect on annual
abortion rates than whether or not the president is pro-life, and thus
whether or not a president opposes abortion should not be the main
consideration a pro-life voter takes into account, or in the case of
so-called "pro-life" voters supporting Biden, not a
consideration that should be taken into account at all.
While it is true that whether or not the president is pro-life does
not necessarily affect the annual abortion rate, and that state
efforts play a significant role in the pro-life movement, this does
not mean that the president does not matter when it comes to the fight
against abortion. The president plays an important role in either
advancing or reversing the gains of the pro-life movement. Let's
not forget that President Clinton vetoed the partial birth abortion
ban. As a result, it took eight years from the first time that
Congress passed the ban before it was finally passed and signed into
law under a pro-life president.
During those eight years, approximately 1,280 late-term (>28 week)
babies were legally murdered in a most gruesome fashion via partial
birth abortions.

Pope Francis Gets it Wrong on Civil Unions
Screenshot_2020-10-23+Free+Image+on+Pixabay+-+Pope,+Pope+Fra
According to a recently released documentary, Pope Francis has
expressed approval of civil unions for same-sex couples, saying,
"Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family.
They're children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody
should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it," and
"What we have to create is a civil union law. That way they are
legally covered." Some have argued that the Pope's
comments are taken out of context and that the film misrepresent his
position, but the Vatican has not yet issued clarification on this
matter.

Pope Francis would not be the first person to call for civil unions as
an alternative to same-sex marriage. While this may seem like a
compassionate approach, affirming and encouraging people in a
lifestyle that is at odds with God's design is not a loving
thing to do. In 2003, the Catholic church affirmed this by saying,

The Church teaches that respect for homosexual persons cannot lead in
any way to approval of homosexual behaviour or to legal recognition of
homosexual unions. The common good requires that laws recognize,
promote and protect marriage as the basis of the family, the primary
unit of society. Legal recognition of homosexual unions or placing
them on the same level as marriage would mean not only the approval of
deviant behaviour, with the consequence of making it a model in
present-day society, but would also obscure basic values which belong
to the common inheritance of humanity. The Church cannot fail to
defend these values, for the good of men and women and for the good of
society itself.
It is impossible to build a healthy society while rejecting
God's design for humanity.
Civil union law, like the legalization of same-sex marriage, does just
that. The church cannot give tacit consent to sin by encouraging
people to persist in a lifestyle that Scripture condemns, that goes
against God's created order, and that is harmful for those who
practice it. To do so is neither faithful nor truly loving.

The United States, in a coalition of 32 countries representing
more than 1.6 billion people, today issued a declaration at the
United Nations that there is "no international right to
abortion."
"On Thursday, October 22, Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo
and HHS Secretary Alex Azar participated in the virtual signing of the
Geneva Consensus Declaration, a historic document that further
strengthens an ongoing coalition to achieve better health for women,
the preservation of human life, support for the family as foundational
to a healthy society, and the protection of national sovereignty in
global politics," a press release from
the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
(HHS) reads.

Along with the United States the document was co-sponsored and
signed by 32 countries including Brazil, Egypt, Hungary,
Indonesia, and Uganda.
The opening words of the declaration explain its purpose as including
expressing "the essential priority of protecting the right to
life" and promoting "strength of the family and of a
successful and flourishing society."
Point 3 of the declaration states that the ministers and high
representatives of Governments "[r]eaffirm the inherent
'dignity and worth of the human person,'
that 'every human being has the inherent right to
life,' and the commitment 'to enable women to go
safely through pregnancy and childbirth and provide couples with the
best chance of having a healthy infant.'"
