LEED for Cities Program

The USGBC's LEED for Cities program provide cities and counties with a globally consistent way to measure and communicate performance. The programs provide a framework for planning, designing, measuring and managing the performance of social, economic and environmental conditions on a city-wide or county-wide level. More than 90 cities and communities globally have already been certified through the LEED for Cities and Communities programs.

This presentation will provide an overview of the LEED for Cities program and rating system framework. It will also touch on typical barriers to pursuing certification and strategies for overcoming them.

Aaron Lande serves as a Manager within the LEED for Cities program at the US Green Building Council. In this role he works with local governments across North America, introducing them to the concept of sustainability performance metrics and supporting their efforts to track community performance and improvement using the LEED for Cities rating system. Previously, he worked for STAR Communities before its merger with the LEED for Cities program, advancing that organization’s work with communities across North America, leading the STAR Affiliates program, and developing the organization’s educational offerings. He holds a Master Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University with a specialization in land use policy, and he received his undergraduate degree in political science from Carleton College.
