Binational Protestors Converge On The Border To Demand Restoration Of Asylum
By Max Rivlin-Nadler
"Marchers converged on the U.S.-Mexico border Wednesday morning to protest the treatment of asylum-seekers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Tijuana, asylum-seekers marched to the El Chaparral port of entry, demanding that the U.S. restore asylum proceedings for the thousands of migrants fleeing their home countries and arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border. Across the border in San Ysidro, advocates read the stories of asylum-seekers...
Before the pandemic, many asylum-seekers were waiting months in Mexico for their chance to appear in a U.S. court for an asylum hearing. As COVID-19 limited travel across the border, however, the US asylum system has nearly ground to a halt, and the U.S. has expelled anyone who crosses the border without authorization in a matter of minutes.
It has also postponed all scheduled asylum hearings for those in the "Remain-in-Mexico" program.
"There’s a lot of uncertainty, and fear for our asylum-seeking siblings in Tijuana. Their dates are having to be postponed. There’s a lack of information, a lack of resources, they don’t have any certainty in their asylum process,” said Dulce Garcia, the executive director of Border Angels.
The two groups converging at the border issued a list of demands — including the end of Remain-in-Mexico, the reopening of the border for asylum-seekers, more support for immigrants from the Mexican government and the end of waiting lists for people who want to declare asylum."

Election holds future of young, undocumented immigrants in the balance
The fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, may be determined by who wins the presidency in November
By Kate Morrissey
"Dulce Garcia, a DACA recipient and Chula Vista-based immigration lawyer, is one of the plaintiffs in the case that went before the Supreme Court. She said she’s working to encourage people who can vote to vote, focusing not only on the presidential race but also Congress.
“We hope the elections change all of this so that we don’t have to keep fighting for our existence here,” Garcia said. “It’s exhausting.”
She said that the legal team on her case and the cases linked to it are already planning to take the new restrictions back to court.
“If we have to take this again to the Supreme Court, we will,” she said."

Every weekend we go out, we get clues. These clues help us in the weeks that follow. These clues work as puzzle pieces where we try to connect where we have left supplies, where desert travel moves and where we need to be leaving supplies.
We are always working in ways to improve, learn and be more efficient while out in the desert, so we may be able to serve our purpose the best way possible.
Weekly desert trips during Covid with small groups of the most experienced Water Drop members has allowed us to learn so much, act rapidly and advance our mission. Thank you to everyone who has continued to show up on a regular basis. Thank you everyone for your support and understanding during the pandemic.
In the meanwhile, donations of water gallons (non milk jug style), pop-top canned food, socks and bandanas are appreciated, along with sharing our social media posts.
For any questions about Water Drops or our Water Drops during Covid, reach out to Water Drop Program Co-Director James Cordero, [email protected].
Thank you for your continued support!

We did it again, we freed another person from detention, and it’s all thanks to YOU! Meet Bilal, a Mauritanian asylum seeker who has been in Imperial Valley Regional Detention Center for four months. He is 19 years old and the youngest person we have bonded out to date. It pains us to know at his young age has had to go through the horrors of detention amidst a global pandemic, but we are hopeful for his future and new beginning in Philadelphia.
In sharing every story, and posting every bond, it is our hope that we will all learn to welcome instead of to fear. We remind you to always lead with love and kindness, for that is how we will help fight racist and inhumane policies. We must always raise our voice to help accept those who so desperately need us, and who have come to this country asking for acceptance. It is up to all of us!
We thank you for your continued support, and once again ask for your help to save lives. Our bond funds are running low and we need your support more than ever in order to free our folks. All donations make a difference no matter the amount, and every dollar is spent towards getting someone out of detention! Help us #freethemall!

Last week, we continued our migrant shelter assistance in Tijuana by supporting Ejercito de Salvacion by buying them a very much needed washer, dryer, fridge and stove! We are so elated to keep helping this shelter as it houses only women and children. (We were also able to take a few soccer balls that were mailed to our office!).
So many of these appliances we have in our home and don’t realize the importance in our everyday lives. Especially in these shelters, where you may only have one change of clothes, a washer and dryer becomes essential. They also serve the shelter to help sanitize and take precautions against COVID.
They also now have a place to store and cook fresh produce and groceries we also help them purchase, and it’s all thanks to you.
We are so grateful to your continued support!

Thank you so much to Peace Rising for hosting us at their Sustainable Governance Summit: Achieving Climate Security Through Inclusive Institutions.
It was an honor to discuss how we can do civic engagement in a way that enhances our sustainability and sense of community, to survive and thrive in the years ahead. We were able to connect with such a globalized community!

With our new Green Cards for Kids program, we are so lucky to be able to work with immigration attorney Fabiola Navarro who will be representing these children.
It is crucial that we help these children as they have already suffered enough abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.
With your continued support, we can help pay for the legal representation these children deserve in this critical time of their lives.
Please consider donating! No amount is too small!

Despite the growing challenges of this pandemic, Border Angels remains determined to protect and support the community we have pledged to serve. Even though we are currently unable to accept physical donations, we are always accepting monetary donations to support:
1. Our Shelter Aid Program❤️: Especially now that we are unable to receive these items, we need your help to provide funds for groceries, hygiene products, utility bills, rent, clothes, etc.!
2. Familias Reunidas Bond Program👨👩👧: Given the severity of this outbreak, we NEED to get as many people out of the Otay Mesa Detention Center as we can. With your help we can post bond for more individuals! (Link in highlights under Bond Program)
3. Water Drop Program💧: Even after having to postpone public water drops, our team is still constantly in the desert scouting and dropping the supplies necessary for survival. Their work never stops because the need never stops.
Thank you for your continued support.🖤🦋
