The Unz Review Digest - October 23, 2020
Ranking first this last week was Wayne Allensworth analysis arguing that a leftist attempt to instigate a “Color Revolution” and deny Trump an victory might have the same results as the anti-Gorbachev coup in the old Soviet Union, which caused the final collapse of the USSR and Communism.
Second place by a hair was held by Mark Weber’s presentation of the Franklin Roosevelt-Adolf Hitler exchange of public statements just before the outbreak of World War II, with the German Chancellor’s lengthy defense easily demonstrating the severe errors and arrogance in the accusations of the American president, an outcome that seemed to have been widely acknowledged at the time. Nearly 400 comments totaling over 50,000 words discussed various aspects of this historical controversy, as well as other, unrelated matters.
Coming up very fast after just one day and currently in a photo-finish for second was Kevin MacDonald’s article strongly supporting the reelection of Donald Trump, suggesting that despite his serious flaws as a candidate and a president, the prospect of Democratic control of the levers of national political power would be a disaster for America, and put in place policies that would permanently destroy our national future.
Our fourth most popular article was C.J. Hopkins’s denunciation of the “Covadian Cult”, arguing that the dishonest public narrative surrounding what is actually not that deadly a disease has severely damaged the freedom and economic well-being of the West, including America and most of Europe, but that popular opposition is continuing to grow.
Placing fifth was Guillaume Durocher’s account of the harsh French legal crackdown against dissident publisher Alain Sorel, who was forced to pay exorbitant legal damages to a Jewish activist organization merely for republishing a 128-year-old book by a noted French author, a development so obviously contrary to the alleged claims of freedom of speech in that country.
Finally, rounding out our most popular featured articles was Andrew Joyce’s deconstruction of ideological theories of rightwing Jewish blogger Curtis Yarvin, widely known as “Mencius Moldbug,” suggesting that they constitute bad faith arguments against criticism of historical Jewish behavior.
Our country seems headed for a political crisis, with the enemies of Deplorable America making noises suggesting they are planning a post-election “Color Revolution”-type coup against Trump. As a long-time Russia-watcher, I suggest that the failed Soviet coup of 1991, and the collapse that it spurred on, is instructive. The key point that year came...

The German Leader’s Reply to the American President’s Public Challenge
Of the many speeches made by Adolf Hitler during his lifetime, certainly one of the most important was his address of April 28, 1939. It was also very probably the most eagerly anticipated and closely followed speech of the time, with many millions of people around the world listening to it live on radio or...

Trump’s 2016 victory was seen as nothing less than a cataclysm by the American establishment—the greatest shock to the system in memory and perhaps in the entire history of the Republic. After all, Trump was vehemently opposed by the entire establishment from far left to the neoconservative and Chamber of Commerce right. It was, one...

One of the hallmarks of totalitarianism is mass conformity to a psychotic official narrative. Not a regular official narrative, like the “Cold War” or the “War on Terror” narratives. A totally delusional official narrative that has little or no connection to reality and that is contradicted by a preponderance of facts. Nazism and Stalinism are...

As the judicial persecution of French dissidents intensifies, it is becoming more difficult to keep track of even the most punitive measures. Thus, I only recently learned that the French civic nationalist and publisher Alain Soral was sentenced last month to pay €134,400 ($158,500) to the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism (LICRA), the French...

Having read deeply into the Jewish Question for almost 20 years, I’m always fascinated by novel objections to anti-Semitism. This was the case when I was prompted to turn to the writings of Curtis “Mencius Moldbug” Yarvin by a recent Keith Woods video (“Unqualified Reservations on Moldbug”). I think I first heard about Yarvin around...

This entire year, I’ve been a vagabond, but you, too, have been on a journey, away from just about everything you’ve known, into the vaguest of futures, and we’re just getting started. Steered by obscured hands, we’re whipped around blind bends, towards a reality we have no part in shaping. Yesterday, my friend Chuck Orloski...

On October 1st, with little fanfare, Politico published an extraordinary opinion piece that may be the most important thing I’ve read all year. Titled “Americans Increasingly Believe Violence is Justified if the Other Side Wins,” the essay was penned by three “senior fellows” at the Hoover Institution, New America, and the Hudson Institute, as well...

Multiple European Union states are breaking with post-war liberal conventions and openly imprisoning prominent political opponents and intellectuals for ideological crimes. The tactic being used by these governments is "rule through law," as opposed to rule of law. The strategy is commonly deployed in nations like Saudi Arabia against journalists, intellectuals and opposition figures who...

High Tech Oligarchs threaten democracy
The current electoral campaign differs from that of 2016 in that the media, both conventional and online, has realized its power and has been openly playing a major role in what might well prove to be a victory across the board for the Democratic Party. At least that is the expectation, bolstered by a flood...

The world began its countdown to the most dramatic event of this dramatic year, to the US Presidential elections. Will Trump make it? Will this great orange man who beat Coronavirus and came back from the clutches of death manage to beat Sleepy Joe and his multitudes? Or will the Dems take us all into...

Yesterday, Twitter gave the New York Post the AmRen treatment. The right-leaning tabloid published a damning report about how Hunter Biden profited from his father’s influence, but Twitter users got this message if they clicked on the link. Potentially spammy or unsafe. Sure. This is the same message you get if you click on an...

In the absence of official statistics, observers interested in the ethno-religious changes of France society must resort to creative methods. One such method is to use the French statistical agency’s (INSEE) annual database of first names given to newborns. Using this data, the French identitarian news aggregator Fdesouche has charted the dramatic growth of newborns...

We the undersigned support the academic freedom of Prof. Mark Crispin Miller, now under siege at New York University for urging students in his propaganda course to read scientific literature on the effectiveness of masks against transmission of COVID-19. We see his situation as but one example of a growing global trend toward rigid censorship...

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, is the world’s foremost diplomat. The son of an Armenian father and a Russian mother, he’s just on another level altogether. Here, once again, we may be able to see why. Let’s start with the annual meeting of the Valdai Club, Russia’s premier think tank. Here we may follow the...

Watching the first debate, Trump had the best material, but lost the advantage by coming across as rude. So the first thing is not what I'd say, but how to say it. I hope someone can share this with him. Speak softly and carry a big stick. Now the big elephant stick in the elections...

I'm not a huge YouTube person, but this genre of "day by day"'s for various historical events has become a popular genre and one of my favorites. Certainly a useful visual guide to reading about it. And in this case useful as a comparator to what's happening today. First observation - Armenia started off in...

Do Colorado patriots' lives matter? On a sunny Saturday afternoon, after gathering with Benghazi Marine hero John "Tig" Tiegen at Civic Center Plaza in Denver to show pride in America, hundreds of citizens departed a peaceful "Patriot Muster" feeling inspired. They filed out of the park bedecked in Old Glory, Thin Blue Line flags and...

Demographic change has remade the Old Dominion. Once reliably conservative, Virginia is now a blue state. Non-white immigrants and white liberals moving to Northern Virginia (NOVA) lead this sea change. Arlington, once home to Robert E. Lee, and Alexandria, once a city that honored the Confederacy, are occupied territory. Liberal whites and Asians face a...
