After polls close on November 3, it may take days or weeks to count the votes, declare a winner, and certify the results for the U.S. 2020 general election. In this period of uncertainty, social media platforms may be used in attempts to delegitimize the election process and stoke conflict. While much of the disinformation conversation has focused on the preelection period, this panel will game out online threats and what actions social media platforms should take in the period between election night and inauguration.

Please join <[link removed]> the Center for American Progress for a discussion about the steps that social media platforms should be taking to prepare for potential attempts to stoke conflict or delegitimize the election. Panelists will discuss the unique threats after polls close and the preparation, product, and policy steps that social media platforms can take to prevent their products from causing real world harm and delegitimizing elections.
