Good morning John -- As a United States Senator, I see a lot of folks who are in public service for the wrong reasons. The Senate, once the world’s greatest deliberative body, is so often reduced to partisan grandstanding and gross abuses of power by men like Mitch McConnell. But, John, when I meet and work alongside people like Lauren Underwood, I have a little more hope about the future of our country. Lauren’s passion, accountability and drive to do what is right for her community is a welcome change in her district. But now, after beating a four-term Tea Party incumbent in 2018, the Tea Party is back and supporting her self-funding multimillionaire opponent, a man whose only strategy is an extensive misinformation campaign funded by his own checkbook. Tens of thousands of Illinoisans have already voted early in-person or from home -- so the clock is running out for us to get Lauren’s message of accountability and action to undecided voters across her district who might just now be tuning in.
