Dear MoveOn member,
So much attention in this year's elections is—rightly—focused on the president and Senate, but with so much money flowing to those top-tier races, we cannot lose sight of the critically important races happening in the House of Representatives, where Democrats are working hard to flip traditionally Republican districts and expand the progressive majority—and mandate.
With just 11 days left to vote and precious little time left for campaigns to make decisions about where and how to spend their money, every single dollar can make a difference in a tight House race.
Kara Eastman, Dana Balter, Christina Hale, and Cameron Webb are all running in razor-tight races to flip congressional seats currently held by Republicans, and we have a real shot at flipping all four of these seats on Election Day.
In Nebraska's 2nd District, progressive champion Kara Eastman, who lost her race in 2018 by fewer than 5,000 votes and without the support of Establishment Democrats, is leading the incumbent Republican in this critical race—but the polls are too close for comfort. Kara is a mom, wife, social worker, and an advocate for safe, green housing. Kara believes health care is a human right, and she will fight to overturn Citizens United, the atrocious Supreme Court decision that allows massive corporations to corrupt our democracy.
In New York, Dana Balter is a fierce fighter for Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, universal pre-K, and higher wages for workers, and her race was just moved from "lean Republican" to "toss up" by the highly respected, nonpartisan Cook Political Report. She has a real shot at defeating a three-term Republican incumbent in her district.
In the heart of Mike Pence country in Indiana, Christina Hale is running to flip her district and solve the climate crisis. Christina earned her college degree while raising her son as a single mom, balancing work and school with day care runs and bedtime stories. She ensured her son had health insurance, even when she couldn't afford it for herself.
And in Virginia, voters have the opportunity to elect Cameron Webb, an inspiring leader and son of a public school educator, who grew up to become a doctor and a lawyer. As a practicing physician, Dr. Webb is on the front lines of this pandemic, caring for COVID-19 patients. And as a former Obama administration public health official, Dr. Webb has the expertise and experience needed to tackle our health care crisis and meet the coronavirus epidemic head on.
Our success in flipping the House in 2018 not only put up a roadblock to stop some of Donald Trump's worst policies, but also elevated the voices of inspiring progressive leaders like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Lucy McBath, and more who are helping to shape the conversation and push for bold legislation tackling some of the biggest threats facing our nation and our planet.
We have the opportunity to increase the volume of those voices this year by electing even more inspiring leaders to the House.
Thanks for all you do.
