Covid-19 Update

The Government has introduced a 3 tier regional lockdown system. We also had an opportunity to vote on the 10pm curfew.
I reluctantly voted against the Government again because I am concerned everyone leaving bars at the same time makes the health situation worse and I explain why here ([link removed]) .

Culture Recovery Fund for De La Warr Pavilion

Delighted that the De Lar Warr Pavilion will receive over £657k from the Culture Recovery Fund. This boost will mean that they can remain open for business during these challenging times.

Transport during Brexit

In a one-off session the Transport Committee focused on the transport of freight in the event of a UK-EU free trade agreement, the Government’s no-deal preparations in this area and plans to manage any traffic congestion and disruption at Dover from the end of the transition period.

Matt Hancock's 3 Reasons

I asked Matt Hancock to explain to me why the 10pm curfew is still beneficial overall despite the mass exodus of people on to the streets at 10pm.

Reform for the Railways

The Transport Minister assured me that the Government will take forward the recommendations of the Williams Rail Review and we will not return to the days of the old British Rail.

New Country Pub Owned by Farmers

Delighted to drop in on Jo and her team at the White Hart, Netherfield. A great pub under Ron. Now in new hands. The beef, lamb and pork on the menu are sourced from the owner's farms. Do support this local and sustainable farming and food enterprise.

Further Support for Businesses

The Chancellor has unveiled a new targeted Job Support Scheme to help those businesses which have remained open. You can read more detail here ([link removed]) .

I asked whether the taxpayer was protected from fraudulent claims, you can watch here ([link removed]) .

Exams in 2021

By sitting exams, pupils are best able to demonstrate their abilities. In a debate in Parliament, I argued for a reduction in the exams syllabus to match the time lost by pupils at school.

Passenger Testing

I wrote an article for The House magazine on why we should introduce Covid testing for passengers to boost confidence and protect the aviation industry.

Free School Meals During School Holidays

This week's Opposition Motion on free school meals during the holidays created a lot of interest. Here ([link removed]) I explain the background and decision.

Fire Brigade Update

I took part in a briefing for MPs from the East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service to update us on their response to Covid-19, revised proposals following the Integrated Risk Management Plan ([link removed]) consultation (which I responded to earlier this year) and new regulations to prevent another Grenfell tragedy. These will need additional resources, I am already working to ensure that they get the funding they need.

Black History Month

I spoke in support of greater equality and justice, but also that we learn from history only if we evaluate it and re-evaluate it, but not if we eradicate it.
