Friends, Grassroots supporters like you have been the driving force of my work since day one. Folks chipped in and helped make history — and I became the first woman to represent District 10, the first South Asian in the Virginia Senate, and the first Muslim American woman in the General Assembly. This past Special Session, as we discussed issues of equity and justice in the Commonwealth, I found myself providing perspectives that are often missing from state government. For the last several weeks, my team has been fighting for Virginians in the General Assembly and working alongside leaders across the Commonwealth to mobilize voters ahead of this critical election. Our work has centered around increasing turnout of diverse coalitions of voters. I’ve been proud to partner with a variety of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) leaders and organizations as we mobilize support for Democrats up and down the ballot. I was thankful for the grassroots support for my candidacy in 2019. It shows that there is an appetite for true representation of Virginia’s rich diversity. I’ll never stop fighting to build a Virginia that works for everyone and, thanks to grassroots supporters like you powering our work, we can stick to these values.
