Credit Unions & Banks

Even in the most challenging times, there are actions we can take to promote equity, social justice, and environmentalism.

Have you considered how your choice of a bank or credit union can make such a difference?

Where you bank can mean the difference between supporting fossil fuels and redlining at a megabank versus supporting vibrant communities and green businesses through a community investing bank or credit union.

Move your money to a better bank or credit union!

A recent article in The Atlantic affirms: “Social change is built on a foundation of individual practice….” We know that all of our individual economic actions add up, creating momentum for better products, less waste, and greater opportunity.

Moving your money to community development banks and credit unions is all about expanding opportunity for all communities across our country, including the underserved and communities of color.

I’m delighted to share with you that Green America’s Get A Better Bank directory has just been updated to help you bank with your values!

Use our updated map to find a bank or credit union near you that can meet your needs for a checking account, savings account, certificate of deposit, or mortgage. Or ask a more distant financial institution about their online services that could meet your needs no matter where you live.

Why move to a better bank? This 1-minute video shows the real difference that one community development bank is making for its customers during this time of COVID-19.

Community development banks and credit unions serve their local regions. They support job creation, local business, housing, and real community needs. They are not bankrolling fossil fuels and their customers are not just a number.

Be sure to review our tips for switching banks so you have a smooth experience. Whether your assets are small or large, now is the time to bank with your values!
