I am writing you today to make you aware of Freedom Sunday, scheduled for October 25. The Lord put this idea on the heart of my good friend Tony Perkins, president of Family Research Council, along with a number of credible pastors and Christian leaders in our nation. After watching the video they filmed about the overreach of many governors and states against the church, I was moved to send this video to you:

This powerful video captures the stories of several pastors and denominational leaders who have become the targets of persecution and legal action for their refusal to comply with directives from the state to either shut down or drastically limit the number of members who can worship together at one time in their churches. Yet at the same time, amusement parks, liquor stores, restaurants, large retail stores, and even marijuana retail outlets are all deemed “essential businesses.”

The obvious double standard by these states is clearly religious discrimination and a violation of our First Amendment rights. My own ministry has experienced this recently when the governor of Colorado imposed a 175-person limit for any conference event we host in our 3,200 seat auditorium. We are still in the midst of this battle after receiving a cease and desist letter and an injunction from the state this past week. It is time we stand together to protect our First Amendment rights and freedom to worship without government restraint!

That is why Tony Perkins and church leaders across our nation, including myself, are declaring October 25 Freedom Sunday. We are calling for all churches in America to open up and worship again on 10/25, which corresponds to Hebrews 10:25—“not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.” The church is the most essential institution in America from my perspective!

Would you help me get the word out about Freedom Sunday—October 25, by forwarding this email and video to as many pastors and Christian leaders you know?
