John, yesterday was a dark day for democracy in North Carolina.
Republicans in the General Assembly lied -- to the media and Democrats -- and called a deceptive, surprise vote to override my budget veto.
But I want to reassure you, my colleagues and I will not yield.
I vetoed the GOP because it valued corporate tax cuts over investment in public education and denied healthcare to 500,000 working North Carolinians.
For months, instead of negotiating, this Republican leadership attempted to bully and bribe Democrats to try to overturn my veto. When they couldn't get the votes, they lied and cheated.
All North Carolinians lost yesterday. Teachers lost yesterday. Those without health insurance lost yesterday.
But this fight is far from over, John.
This Republican leadership is not reflective of who we are as a state.
These officials were elected under illegally gerrymandered districts and I believe they are the last gasp of a dying majority.
Last year, even under terrible and unfairly drawn districts, we broke their supermajority in the House and Senate.
Now, every single one of these members will be up for election.
Together, we can ensure that they answer to the people of North Carolina.
By joining the fight and chipping in today, you're standing up for the values that make North Carolina worth fighting for every day. Together, we can stop unethical GOP corruption in our state >> [link removed]

I will not yield,
