Vello Really Goes The Distance!

In response to the COVID-19 health crisis, United Way expanded its reach with the Vello virtual reading program by making 1:1 tutoring sessions available to students at home, encouraging them to improve their reading skills even while school was out for the summer, and as we continue into the fall with districts offering 100% remote or hybrid models of learning.  

This expanded approach for Vello ensures that children remain on track with their reading goals, while also providing families with safe virtual tutoring sessions for their child, even when they are unable to participate from a classroom setting.

Despite unprecedented changes to school models and schedules, Vello has helped students engage in over 100,000 reading opportunities, providing 250 full days of fun-filled reading activities during otherwise challenging times. 

Additional Vello Impact
For the last in-person school year (August 2019 - February 2020):

121 teachers across the nation engaged a cohort of 2,496 elementary school students in 87,648 books, 122,643 quizzes, and 12,845 hours of Learning A-Z reading tutoring resources—the equivalent of 214 full days of reading-related work.
