John,

Earlier this morning, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to send Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the full Senate. Now, there will only be one more vote before she is confirmed to the Supreme Court.

In the middle of a pandemic, the Senate is about to approve a Supreme Court nominee who is opposed to affordable healthcare. In an unemployment crisis, U.S. Senators are about to approve a nominee who is opposed to workers’ rights.

Confirming Judge Barrett to the Supreme Court is dangerous for caregiving families. We need to make sure the Senate knows that caregiving families can’t afford this confirmation.

Will you tell your Senator to oppose Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation?

Our Senators need to hear from us today if we want them to pay attention before they vote for or against this nomination.

Two Republican Senators have already announced that they would vote against this nomination. We only need to convince a few more in order to stop this process until after the election.

Senators should know that during a pandemic, the only priority should be expanding relief that includes job protections, paid sick days, and support for caregivers.

Our friend and disability advocate Rebecca Coakley recently explained why having Judge Barrett on the Supreme Court would be dangerous for people with disabilities and the Caring Majority as a whole. Disabled people benefit from so many parts of the Affordable Care Act -- protection for people with preexisting conditions, expansion of Medicaid, ban on lifetime caps, and the Community First Option program which supports seniors and people with disabilities living in their own communities instead of in nursing homes. The Court will hear arguments about the ACA immediately after the election and we simply cannot trust that Amy Coney Barrett will not use that opportunity to vote to overturn the ACA.[1]

Amy Coney Barrett would be a disaster for caregiving families. Please tell your Senator to vote no on her confirmation.

With care,
