John, we have some bad news, and some good news.
We’ll start with the good news: We have just about as many individual donations so far in 2019 as we did at this point in 2018, in the heat of an election year. That’s a testament to how far we’ve come as a progressive movement.
But like we said, there’s some bad news: not only is Republican spending already on pace to beat their 2018 totals, but Big Pharma and Wall Street are spending record amounts too. Meanwhile, our average online donation amount is down 31% from last cycle — to $12.41 on the year.
Make no mistake, we are beyond proud of that number. It means our work is fueled by regular people chipping in a few dollars at a time (that’s not something a lot of groups can say!) But a lower average amount means we need more donations to keep up our pace and make sure we’re ready for 2020.
Can you make your first donation of 2019 today? Could be $12.41, could be $3, or anything you can afford. It’ll go a long way toward helping us recruit, endorse, and elect more progressives in 2020.
We have a big year ahead of us, John. And it’s going to take a lot of work to take on our heavily-funded, heavily-entrenched opponents. Your support today means a great deal and will help make our work possible.
In solidarity,
Team WFP
