Cardinal Burke Gives Statement on Pope Francis’ Remarks About Civil Unions

Whilst the Church is trying to catch her breath under restrictions brought on by the pandemic, the worldwide communications media stirred into a frenzy when Francesco, a newly released documentary on the life and ministry of Pope Francis inferred that a scene within the film presents Pope Francis calling for the passage of civil union laws for same-sex couples. These comments have raised questions around the world and in many homes; as mentioned, they have also created an onslaught of controversy now dominating media headlines that is fueling some activists and media to suggest Pope Francis has changed Catholic teaching by his comments. To immediately restore clarity on this critical issue, His Eminence, Raymond Cardinal Burke has issued a statement on the declarations of Pope Francis.
