Do you know the catastrophe hidden in these four letters: C - A - F - O?
A CAFO, or concentrated animal feeding operation, is a large-scale facility that confines and feeds massive numbers of livestock . . . some hold millions at a time! They produce colossal amounts of concentrated waste — feces, urine, blood, antibiotics, and other fluids.
That waste is often stored in unimaginably foul, open-air pits the size of football fields. To continually make room for more waste, managers empty the pits by spraying the filth onto adjacent fields — contaminating groundwater and waterways, often sickening local human and wildlife populations.
Friend, your help is urgently needed to fight this crisis. In addition to making a gift now to support our Pure Farms, Pure Waters campaign, you can make a commitment to purchase your meat products from responsible sources such as local farmers who protect the environment.
Expose the destructive nature of CAFOs to the public and policy decision-makers.
Promote sustainable food systems and independent farmers.
Force state and federal authorities to strengthen and enforce rules against the discharge of animal waste.
Fight to keep our waterways drinkable, fishable, swimmable.
Americans have been kept in the dark about the true impact of these fields of filth on our waterways, communities, and health for too long. It’s time to take action today!
Thank you for joining your fellow eco-warriors to hold industrial meat producers accountable for their abhorrent, destructive practices.
