In so many ways, this is a historic race.
Mike Espy is a historic candidate. The first Black member of Congress from Mississippi since the Reconstruction Era and the first Black U.S Secretary of Agriculture, Mike has spent his life working to protect the people of Mississippi and rural communities across the country.
This is a historic matchup. When Mike Espy and Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith went head-to-head in 2018, he won almost 47% of the vote -- the highest percentage for a Democrat in decades. Mike is running again because Mississippians deserve better than a Senator who openly jokes about public hangings and voter suppression. In the U.S. Senate, Mike Espy will be a voice for all Mississippians.
This is a historic campaign. Mississippi has never seen a statewide campaign this big -- from either party. And it’s working. The latest poll has Mike down by just one point, and our team is not slowing down.
We have the opportunity to make history again on November 3 -- but we urgently need help making calls to Mississippi voters. We set an ambitious goal of 50,000 calls this weekend.
