On the 27th October 2017 an anonymous user posted an unverified rumour on the message board 4chan, claiming that within the next 24 hours Hillary Clinton would be arrested. This, though demonstrably false, was the birth of a conspiracy theory that now spans multiple countries and millions of lives. The still-unknown person behind this anonymous post would come to be known simply as 'Q', and the superconspiracy they had birthed would be known as QAnon, drawing their name from the faceless nature of their founding text.

In the years that followed their first false prediction, Q has made more than 4800 posts - referred to by their army of devoted followers as 'Qdrops' - and while their identity remains unknown, Q claims to be a Trump insider with high level security clearance. The story Q has spun is of a powerful global elite made up of satanic paedophiles, who for years now have been kidnapping, torturing and even cannibalising children on a vast scale.

Q has built an online empire - at once a conspiracy theory, a political movement and a quasi-religion - with hundreds of thousands of followers world-wide all dedicated to a theory whose central nature is steeped in violence. They believe something is coming called 'The Storm', the overthrow of the global elite complete with mass trials and executions of liberal politicians. Online QAnon discussion forums fantasise about the bloodshed to come, and numerous acts of violence have been carried out by QAnon followers.

Today, three years on from that first anonymous post, QAnon has grown into a superconspiracy - a multifaceted phenomenon that subsumes existing theories and stokes age-old antisemitic tropes. It has outgrown it's original boundaries, baffled social media giants and capitalised on a global crisis to massively expand its supporter base.

HOPE not hate has just released a groundbreaking report on QAnon that tells the story of the theory from it's birth in an online forum, to it's current place in the twitter feed of the President of the United States and the placards of protesters in central London.
