John,

Sometimes when I go down to our basement, I can still remember the grassy, muddy smell of my sweet little Daniel after he'd been playing outside.

For the longest time after Daniel was murdered, we preserved the basement exactly as he left it that morning. It was his place. We didn't touch the foosball table, because Daniel was the last to play. His books and toy trains – still covered in his fingerprints – gathered dust. Reminders of Daniel are everywhere: To this day, some of his strawberry blonde hair is still sticking out of his yellow football helmet in the garage.

But every minute that passes takes me one minute further away from my life with Daniel, and the gulf keeps getting bigger. It breaks my heart. That's why I sacrifice myself for this work, even though it means reliving Daniel's murder every day – because I know every shooting we prevent, every child we save, spares another parent from experiencing this unbearable pain.

Even with so much going on in the world right now, we cannot let up on this critical work, John – not with children's lives at risk each and every day. But we can't expand our programs to protect more children from gun violence unless we secure every dollar of this critical $100,000 match by tomorrow's deadline – and at this moment, we're still falling very short. Please, will you help me by making a donation now?

Please give $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise now. Every dollar you give by tomorrow will be matched to protect twice as many children from gun violence.

I will devote the rest of my life to this work because I want to build a legacy for my sweet little Daniel; I want to prevent this from happening to another family.

Your donation helps do that, and I couldn't be more grateful. Thank you for all you do to help us save lives.

Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
