Friend,
The Asian American and Pacific Islander electorate in Pennsylvania could very well swing the state back to blue. In 2016, Donald Trump won there by just 44,000 votes -- and AAPIs now make up almost half a million voters.
But historically, national efforts to organize these voters have been severely lacking. As one South Asian activist explains, there is “a perpetual cycle of lack of civic education. Asian Americans don’t vote because candidates and politicians don’t reach out to them -- and politicians don’t reach out to Asian Americans because they don’t vote.”
We’re putting an end to this. We are heavily investing in grassroots efforts in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and other states that desperately need the AAPI’s support to turn them Democratic again -- the party simply cannot afford to leave these folks behind.
But the GOP has learned from their mistakes and are also siphoning funds to lure the AAPI community to the right. Nevermind the several months of racist scapegoating they’ve used to rally their core base -- Republicans are hoping that can be disregarded as they tout Prime Minister Modi's endorsement of Trump, hone in on Kashmir, and spread fear about communism.
We can stop Trump and the GOP right in their tracks. The path to victory is clear: We must out-organize and usher in massive turnout at the polls. But right now, we are severely lacking in the funds necessary to do so.
