A FAIR Shot at Seeking Justice

Good news for consumers, workers and small businesses: new legislation is in the works that could reopen an important path to justice for those harmed by the actions of big corporations.

Earlier this year, the FAIR Act (Forced Arbitration Injustice Repeal) was introduced to Congress. This legislation, which would give individuals and small businesses the option to bring claims in civil court rather than be corralled into a secretive and often forced arbitration process, is long overdue. For years, corporations have been including forced arbitration clauses in boilerplate contracts for items and services people need to function every day, ensuring that people sign their rights away either without realizing it or without meaningful recourse. The FAIR Act has gained traction with hearings in both the House and Senate, and currently has 214 co-sponsors (and growing). We anticipate the House may consider the bill after the summer recess.
