Why Your Family Deserves to Heal

Why is addiction considered a family disease? Well, the answer is twofold. The first part deals with genetics: it’s passed down in our DNA from one generation to the next, becoming a toxic family heirloom that nobody wants. The second part has to do with behavioral changes. The person we know so well, the person we love and adore becomes completely co-opted by addiction, and the entire family has to bear the consequences.

But there is a bright and brilliant hope. A family can and should prioritize its health and healing, even and especially if the family member doesn’t enter into long-term recovery. You can find compassion, insight and helpful strategies for managing a loved one’s addiction through our family and children’s programs—available online in English and Spanish. Because you and your family deserve peace and healing.
