John,
Ever since we first learned of Amy Coney Barrett's nomination to the Supreme Court, our community has continued to demand no nomination until inauguration --
and we won't stop there. For too long, we've gone without the chance for proper representation --
and on the highest court of the country, we demand a Black woman be nominated to the Supreme Court.
Tomorrow, Senator Cory Booker will submit a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of Black Lives Matter demanding the same.
Will you add your name to our letter that will go in the official Senate record?
Here is an excerpt from our letter:
Placing someone like Barrett who has a record of flagrant disregard for established precedent, especially on issues related to race, on the Court is dangerous for marginalized people. Smith v. Illinois Department of Transportation is only one example of her dangerous jurisprudence. In the aforementioned case, Barrett ruled that being called the n-word by a supervisor does not constitute a hostile work environment. So extreme is this ruling, that it places Barrett to the right of Justice Kavanaugh...
A new story also came out today highlighting that, as a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals Seventh Circuit, Barrett once ruled that a cop wasn't responsible for a Black teenager's death because breathing isn't a constitutional right.
On top of this, after Election Day, the court is set to hear a challenge to the Affordable Care Act -- amidst a deadly pandemic that has disproportionately impacted Black and brown folks across the entire country. Amy Coney Barrett's anti-ACA stance is a direct attack and deadly threat to our communities.
We've said it before, and we'll say it again:
Amy Coney Barrett's nomination is dangerous for the future of Black lives.
When Sen. Cory Booker submits this letter, every name on it will go on the official record -- make sure yours is included. We the people demand no nomination until inauguration.
Ever since the passing of Justice Ginsburg, folks across the entire country have made their voices heard in countless ways expressing their disapproval of filling her seat before the inauguration. Election Day is less than two weeks away, and this kind of rushed process has absolutely
nothing to do with the people and has
everything to do with Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell advancing a lifetime appointment of racism, inequality, homophobia, and so much more.
This is completely undemocratic. It's corrupt, and it's a blatant disregard to the people in this country.
But as the people, we have the right to assemble and fight for what we believe in.
Justice Ginsburg would have wanted us to fight this hard -- and that's exactly what we're going to do.
We refuse to be silent and refuse to be defeated. Let us continue to speak out. Will you add your name before Senator Booker submits our letter into the official Senate record tomorrow?
John, let us stand together and continue the fight for no nomination until inauguration.
In love and solidarity,
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation
