Sorry I haven’t emailed in a while, but I’ve been working hard in Washington trying to get stimulus relief from the clutches of Mitch McConnell.

Since May, I’ve been reemphasizing the need and urgency for the Senate to pass the HEROES Act – A piece of legislation that McConnell has continuously blocked from the Senate floor despite the country being ravaged by both the health and economic crises brought upon by this pandemic.

The HEROES Act would give direct cash payments to families, create a national moratorium on evictions and foreclosures, provide hazard pay to frontline workers, and provide billions for testing and contact tracing to get this virus under control. 

Because during a pandemic, no one should have to worry about being months behind on rent or being possibly evicted from their homes. No one should have to worry about contracting a deadly virus while at work. No one should have to worry about putting food on the table or affording medication at a time like this.

And let’s be honest, one $1,200 check is just not enough when someone has lost their job and they need to pay rent. Not to mention the Americans that didn’t even get relief – our undocumented neighbors, those who are unbanked, and many others who weren’t even on the list to qualify for a stimulus check.

I’ve been fighting to ensure that New Yorkers are getting the help we need during this trying time. I’m facing down Mitch McConnell and telling my Republican colleagues to stop playing politics with the American people. Our lives are on the line.

Now more than ever, we must pass the HEROES Act and get the American people the help they need. I won’t give up the fight, but I need your support to ensure I keep my seat in Congress so I can fight for Brooklyn in Washington.
