Fleeing from violence. Without clean water or enough to eat. Exposed to the threat of disease.
That’s the everyday reality for many people living in conflict zones, Friend. They are facing multiple, urgent threats, like the spread of COVID-19 and lack of access to medical care.
Violent conflict between farmers and herdsmen in Nigeria’s Middle Belt region—competing for food, water, and other resources—has displaced more than 300,000 people like Philomena since 2018.
Overcrowding and poor waste management in Naka displacement camp, in Benue, make the spread of disease a major concern for people who fled here in search of safety. Food distribution to affected communities has been sporadic since 2019, and became even less reliable after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic this year. Displaced people like Philomena and her children fled danger at home, and now face new threats in the place where they sought refuge.
Right now, our teams are in Benue, Nigeria, and other conflict zones worldwide, working to provide essential health services, strengthen COVID-19 infection prevention, and improve water and sanitation services. But we need your support to help communities caught in crisis.
