TWO weeks left until election day and your mail-in ballot should have arrived already (you can track your own ballot’s progress right here).
But that also means there’s an avalanche of political ads all over your TV. And sometimes it’s hard to know what’s really going on, which is why we’re writing to you today about the deceptive Prop 22 ads you’ve probably seen. Voting NO on Prop 22 is one of the most important decisions you can make on the ballot this year. Here’s why:
Uber and Lyft are spending $188 MILLION to pass Prop 22, which is a proposed law they wrote themselves to deny their workers basic labor protections and avoid paying their fair share.
So what’s the truth behind what Uber and Lyft are saying in their commercials?
- Uber and Lyft are saying Prop 22 is needed to give their drivers a flexible work schedule. That’s FALSE. Nothing in California law prevents Uber and Lyft – or any employer – from providing their workers a flexible work schedule.
- Prop 22 guarantees drivers 120% of the minimum wage. That’s FALSE. The real value of the Uber/Lyft ballot measure guarantees only $5.64 an hour.
- Uber and Lyft are also claiming that Prop 22 provides new benefits to their drivers, like healthcare. That’s also FALSE. Prop 22 takes away the healthcare benefits that drivers deserve as employees of large, billion-dollar companies.
- Prop 22 is endorsed by “Progressive Slate" and the “Feel the Bern” Voter Guide. That’s FALSE. The Yes on 22 campaign has spent more than $800,000 on FAKE progressive slate mailers, a move Senator Bernie Sanders, who opposes Prop 22, described as a “lie.”
It’s clear Prop 22 is nothing more than an anti-worker, right-wing corporate scheme, written for app companies, by app companies to boost their profits by continuing the exploitation of their workers.
Bottom Line: VOTE NO on Prop 22.
With so much at stake, we must approach Election Day in the strongest position possible.
Will you join working people and help make NO on Prop 22 phone calls to the voters who are going to swing this election? You can sign up to volunteer alongside them today!
