John, there’s a loophole that could be used to ignore your vote
for president. And it’s widely reported that President Trump is already
exploring ways to exploit it.

In case you missed it: Trump’s campaign has begun pressuring lawmakers in
key swing states to appoint false electors to the Electoral College who
would disregard the vote count when choosing our next president.^1

This undermines the very foundation of American democracy and could plunge
our Republic into chaos.

actually voting for a set of electors devoted to that candidate in the
Electoral College.

Then, those electors cast their vote for president, and the U.S. Congress
officially counts the electors’ votes and certifies the winner with 270 or
more electoral votes as our nation’s next president.

But if just one or two state legislatures appoint false electors, it could
change the result of the presidential election – and betray our nation’s
founding principle: That we, the people, decide who represents us.
