"Getting Around Carbon: New Looks at Transportation Options"
Virtual Presentation & Discussion
PARTS-PER-MILLION (PLANETARY ASPIRATIONS)
Silkscreen art by Andrew S. Yang
Just 415 carbon dioxide molecules per one million air molecules are driving global warming, impacting our health and safety. In Illinois, vehicular exhaust is the single-biggest source of carbon dioxide emissions. Learn about new research into the effects of a greater shift toward electric vehicles in the Chicago area and about local climate-friendly transportation initiatives. Gain a perspective on the outsized role of carbon dioxide in our changing climate by hearing about new artwork visualizing this invisible threat in our air.
Featuring Melody Geraci (Active Transportation Alliance), Daniel Horton (Climate Change Research Group, Northwestern University), and Andrew S. Yang (School of the Art Institute of Chicago).
FRI OCT 23, 2020 - 6:00-9:00PM CT
"Beyond Climate"
Virtual Film Screening Event & Discussion
Join the 350 Chicago team and its environmental partners at One Earth Film Festival for a virtual screening of the Chicago premiere of the film "Beyond Climate":
British Columbia - Canada’s most westerly province along the Pacific coast - is a hotspot to visualize and experience how global warming affects local environments and communities. Heat waves, droughts, melting glaciers, pest outbreaks, back-to-back record setting forest fires, and changes to the oceans. “Beyond Climate” takes viewers beyond the headlines and into the heart of the issues. Shot throughout the province over many years, the collective wisdom and perspectives of Indigenous leaders, local communities, scientists, and policymakers are featured.
Stay logged in after the film to participate in a dynamic discussion and learn specific actions you can take to make your home, community, and the planet healthier and more resilient.
