Good afternoon! We hope this newsletter finds you all well. Don’t forget that there are two important happenings tonight – registering voters and the presidential debate. Read below for more information on both and other happenings in our county.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - DOWNTOWN FRIDAY
Downtown Friday is September 27^th and we need volunteers to man our booth for the following shifts:
5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

If you are interested in volunteering for this shift, please send Stacey an email at

LET’S REGISTER VOTERS!

It’s time to start knocking on doors and registering voters! In September, we will begin knocking on the doors of the 700+ Florida Democratic Party identified unregistered voters.

Canvassing will take place on the following dates:

Thursday, September 12
Wednesday, September 18
Monday, September 23

We will meet at Headquarters (2345 14^th Ave., Suite 7, Vero Beach) at 5 p.m. If you are not currently trained to register voters, we will do the training before heading out.

If you plan to canvass, you will need a smartphone with mapping capability.

If canvassing door to door is not your cup of tea, we will begin having tables at the local libraries to register voters at least once a week. If you are interested in this, please send Stacey an email at

COFFEE WITH THE MAYOR – TOMMOROW!

Main Street of Vero Beach hosts Coffee with the Mayor once a month. It is a great networking opportunity and a chance for attendees to advertise local events and businesses. It is also good to hear what is going on in Indian River County from the mayor. It is important for Democrats in our county to attend and let the mayor know we are part of this community, too. See the flyer below for details and please attend!

MOVIE NIGHT AT HEADQUARTERS

On September 20^th at 5:30 p.m. we will be hosting a movie night at the office! In honor of the upcoming 100^th year anniversary of the Women’s Suffrage movement, we will be showing “Iron Jawed Angels”, a movie detailing the struggles women went through to get the right to vote. Please bring your own drinks and money to contribute for pizza. Space is limited so please RSVP to Stacey at

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Our Volunteer of the Month for August 2019 is Ginny Smith! Ginny’s volunteer work extends well beyond her time at the office. She helps at our event booths and is a member of the Democratic Women’s Club where she works on various committees. Thank you, Ginny, for all your time, support and dedication!

DINING WITH THE DEMS

Dining with the Dems is back in October. Join us for a fun night of socializing with dinner and a cash bar. Sarah Christopherson, VP of Plastic Free Florida, will be speaking. See the flyer below for more details and registration information.

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

If you are watching the presidential debate tonight, here is a fantastic guide to have by your side. What’s inside? There is information on candidates, space to take notes on topics, rate the candidates and much more!

MAYOR ZUDAN’S PROCLAMATION

If you’ve seen the recent headlines, you know the Mayor of Vero Beach, Val Zudans, sent a letter to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors on city letterhead chastising them for declaring the NRA a domestic terrorist organization. He wrote the letter on City of Vero Beach letterhead and sent it without the full consent of the Vero Beach City Council. On Tuesday, September 17^th at 3 p.m., he will be asking the Vero Beach City Council to sign on to the proclamation below to declare the NRA an “extraordinary defender of Americans’ Constitutional Civil Rights”. PLEASE attend the meeting and show the city council that this is NOT the will of the people they were elected to represent and we do not want our taxpayers’ dollars being spent on issues that do not directly affect our community.

You can read more about it, including his letter, on our website at:
