Tell Congress:

"At a time of rising income and wealth inequality we must expand Social Security benefits for millions of Americans and pay for it by requiring the wealthy to pay their fair share. Make expanding Social Security a pillar of your campaign platform and released a detailed plan to show us how you’d do it."

John,

Social Security isn’t a problem to be solved, it’s a solution to America’s retirement security crisis.

With private pensions nearly disappearing, 401ks proven unreliable, and stagnant wages making individual savings rare, the retirement security crisis is an urgent problem that demands a bold solution: Expanding Social Security.

Hot off the presses, Elizabeth Warren has a plan for that!

Senator Warren and Bernie Sanders have led on this issue in the Senate, and they’re presidential candidates on the debate stage tonight to release their own bold plans on how they would expand Social Security benefits for every current and future beneficiary while extending the lifespan of the trust fund for decades to come.

Join Social Security Works in calling on each Democratic presidential candidate to tackle the nation’s looming retirement income crisis head-on and make expanding Social Security a pillar of their campaign platform!

Senator Warren’s plan would:

  • Increase benefits significantly for current and future beneficiaries―including retirees, people with disabilities and surviving spouses;

  • Improve the formula used to calculate Cost of Living Adjustments to better reflect older Americans’ out-of-pocket expenses;

  • Recognize the work and sacrifice of family caregivers, giving them credit toward Social Security;

  • Update and improve the special minimum benefit and the benefits of widows who disproportionately live in poverty;

  • Restore vital student benefits upon the death of a student’s parents (which were previously in place until 1981);

  • Fully fund the Social Security Administration (which Republicans have slashed over the last decade);

  • Ensure that all benefits are paid in full and on time by requiring the wealthiest 2% to contribute their fair share.

There are a lot of ideas of how to expand Social Security in a modest way by tinkering around the edges. Senator Warren’s plan doesn’t tinker. It takes a bold approach to addressing rising income and wealth inequality and the squeeze on working families.

Tell all Democratic presidential candidates to introduce a bold plan to expand Social Security and pay for it by requiring the wealthy to pay their fair share.

The American people are ready for bold new ideas to lead our country forward.

Thank you,

Michael Phelan
